Symphony of Time and Architecture is the research booklet for my graduation at TU Delft, in the Explore Lab studio. It asks what time actually is before it asks what architecture should do about it. The first half works through time from several directions: physics, neuroscience and literature, drawing on Rovelli, Hawking, Buonomano and others. The second half turns to the Arctic, to the Alta valley and the stretch of the Eibyelva river where the design would eventually sit.
The argument is that buildings are not static objects set against change, but things that live in time and can be designed to move with it. Rather than resisting weather, erosion and season, a structure can be set up to respond to them.
Part of the work was practical. I ran a series of erosion studies in sand, testing how different interventions behave in a river system. A single column turns out to do almost nothing to sedimentation, and some elements even repel sediment and leave a void behind them. Grouped into clusters, the same elements increase sediment accumulation sharply. That finding fed straight into the design: you can place structures to encourage or discourage the river's own deposits.
