Von Sauna is a visualization project for a series of floating saunas proposed for two sites in the Seattle area: Ballard Mill and the Hyatt Regency Renton. The renders were produced together with Ewa Ziemiecka to support a pitch package with the city. The scope was purely visual, communicating atmosphere and spatial quality to a non-technical audience, not developing or authoring the architectural design.
The saunas adapt the Nordic bathing ritual to the waters of the Pacific Northwest, combining a hot room, a changing area and an open deck on a low-profile floating platform. The render brief called for images that conveyed mood and materiality, the interplay of heat, cold water and overcast Pacific Northwest light, rather than technical resolution.
The project was delivered under a tight deadline, with daily progress updates to the client across a nine-hour time difference.
