In my graduation research, 'Symphony of Time and Architecture,' I explored the relationships between time, change, and the built environment, using the dynamic landscapes of the Arctic as a case study. This exploration transcends traditional architectural boundaries where constructions are static and opposed to change. It is embracing the concept of buildings and spaces as living entities that evolve over time. Through a combination of theoretical investigation and practical case studies, the research examines how architectural designs can integrate and respond to the rhythms of natural and anthropogenic changes. It proposes approaches that allow structures to adapt, respond, and evolve in harmony with their environments, underscoring the profound impacts of temporal and environmental dynamics on architectural practices.

Symphony of Time and Architecture er et forskningsprosjekt som undersøker tid som et arkitektonisk materiale. Med et strukturelt parallell mellom musikalsk komposisjon og romlig design spør det: hvordan utfolder en bygning seg i tid slik en symfoni utfolder seg over satser?
Forskningen sporer fire tidsmessige dimensjoner — levd tid, geologisk tid, sesongtid og forfallstid — gjennom historisk og moderne arkitektur. Casestudier spenner fra Pantheons oculus (som gjør soltiden synlig) til Sverre Fehns manipulasjon av lys og skygge, til den radikale flyktigheten til japansk Metabolisme. Hvert prosjekt forstås som et slags partitur: et sett instruksjoner for opplevelsen av tid i rom.
Arbeidet kulminerte i et skriftlig argument for arkitektur som varighet snarere enn objekt — en disiplin som bør omfavne, snarere enn undertrykke, uunngåeligheten av forandring. Denne forskningen ble det teoretiske grunnlaget for Arctic Symphony.
Symphony of Time and Architecture é um projeto de pesquisa que examina o tempo como material arquitetônico. Traçando um paralelo estrutural entre composição musical e design espacial, pergunta: como um edifício se desdobra no tempo da mesma forma que uma sinfonia se desdobra ao longo de movimentos?
A pesquisa traça quatro dimensões temporais — tempo vivido, tempo geológico, tempo sazonal e o tempo do decaimento — através da arquitetura histórica e contemporânea. Os estudos de caso vão desde o óculo do Pantheon (que torna o tempo solar visível) até a manipulação de luz e sombra de Sverre Fehn, passando pela efemeridade radical do Metabolismo japonês. Cada projeto é entendido como uma espécie de partitura: um conjunto de instruções para a experiência do tempo no espaço.
O trabalho culminou em um argumento escrito pela arquitetura como duração em vez de objeto — uma disciplina que deve abraçar, em vez de suprimir, a inevitabilidade da mudança. Esta pesquisa tornou-se o fundamento teórico para Arctic Symphony.
